The existing common rooms were selected for refurbishment to create a series of spaces to provide greater opportunities for social interaction and study.
The existing spaces were poorly furnished and did little to encourage students to socialise and study and the aim of the scheme was to create places which would potentially mediate between the study bedroom and the main teaching clusters on campus.
The design adopts a ‘kit of parts’ approach creating a variety of settings to study individually, collaboratively or just relax.
