Following a competitive interview process , the project involved the provision of a new Critical Care Complex to accommodate seven new operating theatres, recovery suite, intensive care unit, high dependency unit, CSSD, endoscopy suite, laboratories and administrative facilities.

The building has been designed to allow for future expansion and demand for services over the next 15 years. Extending over four floors, the two lower levels fill the site footprint whilst the upper levels split into two wings, arranged around a landscaped courtyard that introduces natural light into the depth of the plan.

Externally a restrained palette of materials, established by the practice to direct future development, is articulated by projecting zinc clad elements with the laboratories contained below shallow butterfly roofs.
